Drip Irrigation Installation puts water at the root zone through drip lines or tape fitted with emitters, fed from a headworks that filters and controls the water. Send one request and independent drip installers who may cover your area reply with availability and prices.

Get the Best QuoteWhat Drip Irrigation Installation Includes
- Headworks. Filters, pressure gauges, air valves, and often a fertiliser injector and controller.
- Mainline and submains. Pipe from the headworks to each block, with block valves.
- Drip lines or tape. Laid along each row, connected to the submain, with flushing ends.
- Emitters. Built-in drippers at a set spacing and flow rate, matched to soil and crop.
- Commissioning. Flushing, line-end pressure checks and a check of emitter output.
Who It Suits
Orchards, vineyards, vegetables, sugarcane and other row crops where water is limited or expensive. Drip handles slopes and wind better than overhead sprinklers and keeps foliage dry. It needs clean, filtered water and regular checks.
Drip Options
- Drip tape. Thin-walled and lower cost, usually lasting one to a few seasons on vegetables.
- Drip line. Thicker wall, lasts many seasons, for orchards, vines and other permanent crops.
- PC drippers. Pressure-compensating emitters give even flow on slopes and long rows, at a higher price.
- Non-PC drippers. Cheaper and fine on flat, short runs where pressure is even.
- Single or double lines. Trees on light soils often need two lines for a wider wetted strip.
Match dripper spacing and flow to your soil: sandy soils need closer spacing than clay soils.
How the Job Runs
- Site visit and water test. Water quality decides the filtration needed.
- Design and quote. Block layout, dripper choice, line lengths and headworks.
- Headworks and mainline. Filters and valves are installed and pipe is laid.
- Laterals. Lines are rolled out, connected and flushed.
- Commissioning. Pressure and flow per block are checked and recorded.

Prices JUST UPDATED. Ballpark figures, rounded, excluding VAT unless stated. They are compiled from published South African cost estimates and typical supplier and contractor rates. They are not our prices or quotations, and no contractor is bound by them. Unless a row says otherwise they exclude the water source, power supply and earthworks, so confirm exactly what each quotation includes.

Get the Best QuoteWhat Affects the Price
- Row spacing. Closer rows mean more metres of drip line per ha.
- Line and dripper type. Tape costs less than line; PC drippers cost more than non-PC.
- Filtration and fertigation. Dam or river water needs larger or automatic filters.
- Automation. Controllers and solenoid valves add cost but save labour.
- Block size and slope. Small, steep or irregular blocks need more valves and fittings.
Maintenance
Clean filters as often as the pressure difference across them requires, flush laterals regularly and check line-end pressure. Chlorine or acid treatment may be needed against algae, bacterial slime or lime. Repair animal and tool damage quickly, as every hole lowers pressure down the line.
Drip Irrigation Installation FAQs
Do I need PC drippers?
Use PC drippers on slopes or long rows where pressure varies. On flat, short blocks non-PC drippers usually work and cost less.
What filtration does drip need?
It depends on the water source. Clean borehole water may only need a disc or screen filter, while dam or river water often needs sand media or automatic backflush filters.
How long does drip line last?
Thin tape is usually replaced after one or a few seasons. Thicker drip line lasts many seasons if it is filtered, flushed and protected from damage.
Can I add fertigation later?
Yes, if the headworks leaves space for an injector and the controller can run it. Mention it when you request quotes.
