Orchard Factors in Haarlem
- Young versus mature trees. New plantings start with one line or small emitters and often need a second line as the trees fill out.
- Frost. Growers who want micro or overhead frost protection need far more water and pump capacity than normal irrigation uses.
- Algae in summer. Farm dam water grows algae and organic matter in the warm months, which quickly blocks fine drippers.
- Sloping rows. Where blocks run up a hillside, pressure-compensating drippers keep top and bottom trees evenly watered.

Agricultural Irrigation Haarlem FAQs
Drip or micro for apples and pears?
Drip uses less water and suits dense plantings, while micro wets a wider area and can help shallow roots. Many growers use drip on new blocks and keep micro on older trees.
Will switching to drip stress established trees?
Roots take time to adjust to a smaller wetted area, so contractors often fit two lines per row and convert outside the peak season.
What filter does dam water need?
For drip, usually sand media or automatic disc filters. Micro-sprinklers tolerate somewhat coarser filtration.
